Write a winning essay and you could be Mukilteo's youngest mayorEnter now to win Mayor for a Day
Would you like to be Mukilteo's youngest mayor in history? Does your son or daughter have what it takes to be mayor of Mukilteo? What about just for one weekend?
Mukilteo residents ages 8 through 12 have an opportunity to be honorary mayor during the 2012 Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival.
The esteemed honorary winner will ride with our real mayor, Joe Marine, in the annual parade on festival Saturday, be honored on the festival main stage Saturday, enjoy a catered Arnie's buffet and be invited with his or her family to the VIP tent to watch the fireworks.
This year's contestants must write an essay, approximately 400 words or less, telling what they like best about living in Mukilteo. Entries are judged on an age-appropriate basis and rated on content and creativity as well as structure. Humor is not required; always encouraged. No help from Mom and Dad, please!
Do you want Mr. and Mrs. Marine telling Joey how to run the town? We didn't think so.
The winner will have an official City Hall nametag proclaiming him or her mayor during festival Saturday, be interviewed for the Beacon, and have his or her photo (taken at City Hall) and winning essay published in the festival issue of the Beacon.
Entries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed or dropped off at the Beacon offices, 806 5th Street in Mukilteo, by the contest deadline. There is a drop slot in the bottom right corner of the front door for after-hours entries. Deadline is Aug. 24.
During the closing ceremonies, the Mukilteo Festival Association will hold a straw poll of all present to decide who gets to continue on as mayor. Just kidding on that last part, Joe!
