Letter: Vote ‘yes’ for libraries

Mar 21, 2018

I am a lifelong Washingtonian, Mukilteo resident, community volunteer, and avid library user.

I am writing to urge voters to join me in supporting our local libraries by voting “yes” for libraries on April 24.

The value the library adds to our community, not to mention our lives, is worth so much more than any dollar amount.

From home, I access databases from Consumer Reports, Mango Languages (where I brush up on my Spanish) to Lynda.com where I learn new skills.
All are free with my library card!

I attend fun events and have access to books and audio books from all 22 community libraries in our system.

When I was new to Mukilteo, the library was the first place I visited to feel connected to our community. I was very impressed when I took the time to learn how wisely Sno-Isle uses our tax dollars.

I am very concerned that due to lower turn out in a special election, the levy may not pass. It would be a shame for Sno-Isle to have to cut services and hours that so many of us depend on.

Libraries are an important traditional American bulwark that we need to support and preserve. A shared space where everyone is welcome and everyone can feel safe.

I hope you will join me in voting “yes” for libraries on April 24!
