Happy Lunar New Year, everybody!

The official Chinese New Year, celebrated by more than 1 billion people around the world, occurred yesterday, Feb. 5, as we have gone from the year of the dog to the year of the pig.

Members of the greater-Mukilteo area came to the Rosehill Community Center Friday, Feb. 1, to celebrate the change, and to enjoy lots of great food and dance performances from members of the North Seattle Chinese Dance Group, who sponsored the event for the third straight year.

The North Seattle Chinese Dance Group, a nonprofit organization, is a fixture in Mukilteo, performing at many events around town, such as Movie Night at Rosehill, the anniversary celebration at the Mukilteo Library, and at the Mukilteo Police Department’s Night Out celebration at the Mukilteo YMCA.

The dancers performed 12 traditional dances, one of which had a violin solo, much to the delight of those in attendance.

There was plenty of hand-drawn art on display from local students; gift cards, gift baskets, movie tickets and more were available through a raffle.
