Strong finishes for Knights in distance races | Track and field

Kamiak’s distance crew started off the postseason with strong performances at the Wesco 4A track and field championships.

Senior Alicia Anderson took third place in the girls 3,200-meter race and was followed by freshman Emma Arceo and Leah Clark, who placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

Anderson also finished fourth in the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 8.81 seconds, her best time of the season Arceo placed fifth and senior Leah Clark was seventh.

In the boys 1,600, sophomore Carp Mukai took third place in a career best time of 4:25.53 and finished seventh in the 3,200. Sophomore Jason Blinn took eighth in the 1,600 in personal record of 4:29.92.

Mariner junior Cheick Toure finished second in the high jump with a career best mark of 5 feet 10 inches and Kamiak freshman Nathan Warner was right behind him in third. Kamiak senior Michael Springer finished third in the discus

Mariner sophomore Sebastian Wanjiu took seventh in the 200 and eighth in the 100. Kamiak senior Daudi Musoke was seventh in the 100 and fourth in the long jump with a PR of 20-06. Mariner freshman Dominic Cruz-Estrada took eighth in the 800 and senior Ignacio Garcia was seventh in the javelin. Kamiak junior Richard Chung took seventh in the pole vault.

Mariner’s 400 relay team of Wanjiru, Harrison Hayden, Raj Dhaliwal and Edwin Bouah finished third and the 1,600 relay squad of Wanjiru, Bouah, Cruz-Estrada and Hayden placed fourth.

Kamiak senior Tracey Hatch finished third in the girls 400 in a season’s best time of 1:00.30, and Mariner sophomore Leslie Amaral took eighth in a career-best time of 1:01.73.

Kamiak sophomore Isabelle Leonard placed third in the high jump and junior Ava Manning was fourth. Manning also took fourth in the triple jump. Mariner senior Corzette Dampac was third in the pole vault.

Mariner sophomore Kumba Starr finished eighth in the 200 with PR of 26.93 and sophomore Natalie Garcia was seventh in the 300 hurdles with a career best time of 51.09.

Kamiak senior Tara Koonce finished fourth in the shot put and ninth in the discus. Mariner sophomore Haddy Camara took seventh in the long jump.

Mariner’s 1,600 relay squad of Kristina Polishchuk, Kara Sevigny, Illona Krutiy and Amaral finished third.

Kamiak’s 400 relay team of Savannah Congdon, Riley Cooke, Abby Kyles and Hatch finished fourth and the 800 relay team of Isabela Ceniceros, Cooke, Congdon and Tess Schornack also placed fourth. Ceniceros, Hatch, Kyles and Anderson took fourth in the 1,600 relay.

The 4A District track and field championships are Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) and Friday (4:30 p.m.), May 15 and 17, at Shoreline Stadium.
