Priorities are out of whack

After the past few weeks of dire budget news and painful cuts, the Mukilteo City Council got a brief reprieve in the form of an additional $118,000. Finance director Scott James discovered he had left projected parking and boat launch fees out of the 2010 budget as well as staff time spent on construction that can be billed to the company building the new community center.

Naturally, the council had no trouble finding homes for those extra dollars.

Unfortunately, those didn't involve restoring some of the more troubling cuts such as eliminating pay for reserve firefighters, staff training and vehicle replacement funds.
