Nov 27, 2013

Kick off the holidays with Everett’s annual Wintertide celebration next week.

The family-friendly event is free and runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Wetmore Theatre Plaza at the Everett Performing Arts Center (EPAC), 2710 Wetmore Ave.

Enjoy the toasty bonfire, carolers, and free hot cocoa and cookies while watching the tree lighting and the arrival of Santa on an Everett fire truck. Santa is expected to arrive at 6 p.m.

“We’re thrilled this year to welcome Captain Smartypants from the Seattle Men’s Choir and Sensible Shoes from the Seattle Women’s Choir,” said Carol Thomas, cultural arts manager. “Both groups put on a fun, lively concert that the whole family will enjoy."

Throughout the evening, kids can get their faces painted, make crafts and take photos at a holiday-themed photo booth. Families can also enjoy special short shows at Second Stage, where KIDSTAGE will present scenes and songs from “A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS.” The Everett Public Library will offer “Holiday Magic: Stories from Around the World, with Puppets, Too” in the lower level.

Captain Smartypants and Sensible Shoes perform from 7 to 8 p.m. on the EPAC stage. All performances and activities are free to the public.

“Wintertide is always a community favorite, and this year we have even more activities, more music and more shows,” said Thomas. “You won’t want to miss out, so bundle up the family and make an evening of it.
