City calls for 2nd round of lodging tax grant applications

Aug 08, 2012

The city is once again seeking applications for a lodging tax grant due to an excess of funds in the Hotel/Motel Fund. This is a second round for grant applications.

Project proposals should support and encourage tourism and cultural activities in Mukilteo. The deadline for applications is Aug. 10.

The purpose of the City of Mukilteo Lodging Tax Grant, administered by the Executive Department, is to support projects which encourage tourism activities in the city of Mukilteo.

Eligibility of sponsors and projects is defined broadly to encourage wide participation and innovative proposals.

The source of the funds is the city’s share of tax collected on hotel and motel room rentals within the city of Mukilteo.

Because of this, the amount available in any given year fluctuates in direct proportion to the level of tourism business.

Applications are evaluated by the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, which makes funding recommendations to the City Council.

The council makes the final decision on project approval and funding levels.

Municipalities of 5,000 or more are required to establish a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. Mukilteo’s committee has five members.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal, look for the links to the application and guidelines at on the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee page that is found under the Mukilteo Commissions, Committees and Boards.
