Competitive car lovers find camaraderie at annual car show | Chamber Corner

Courtesy of: Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce This year’s car show is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at the Historic Flight Foundation, 10719 Bernie Webber Drive. A Saturday night cruise-in with barbeque and live music is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 24.

Car shows are interesting events when you consider the competitive world. Those who enter their cars have spent countless hours researching where to purchase parts, how to get the perfect hue for their paintwork, and then there’s the big debate: foreign or American?

They may have joined car clubs to garner insights and ideas and to collaborate with likeminded owners. Or, they may be relatively new to the car world, and are tinkering in their own backyard. What all of them have assuredly done, however, is invested heavily in time as well as finances to this diverting pastime.

With all that said, and recognizing that car enthusiasts do want to win that elusive trophy at the end of the day, “competitive” is overshadowed by “camaraderie.” Year after year, we watch as these men and women line up their vehicles in the display area at our car show, get out and carefully wipe down an imaginary smudge, and then greet each other with warm handshakes – sometimes even hugs.

For those who don’t know, these car aficionados see each other often, as car shows are dotted all around the state, sometimes two to three per weekend. That they have chosen our local event delights us, and we are happy to offer not only a unique location – everyone loves walking around the Historic Flight Museum – but also live music, food vendors, raffle prizes and many other fun activities.

Two years ago, we began a Saturday night event, allowing registered participants who wish to sign up the opportunity to bring in their vehicle early, get a prime location for the main event on Sunday, and enjoy a barbeque dinner with live music and a chance to visit with other drivers.

We are offering that again this year. Saturday’s Ribs & Rods has been sponsored by the Staybridge Suites, with a catered dinner from Jimmy Mac’s Roadhouse, as well as live music. The Staybridge, as well as two other hotels in Mukilteo, will offer reduced rates for out of town attendees.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, the Mukilteo Car Show will get underway. Our presenting sponsor, Chevrolet of Everett, will be on site, showcasing two of their favorite cars. Heritage Bank, Mercedes Benz of Lynnwood, Karmichael’s Auto Salon, Matt Martin State Farm, and Dwayne Lane’s Auto Family are all proud event sponsors.

New this year, we have added some fun categories for our drivers. How about “Survivor to Barn Find?” Or “Longest Distance Traveled?” “Daily Driver?” We even broke out our “Favorite Muscle Car” to include Ford, Chevrolet, and MOPAR.

This is a family friendly event, and all are invited to this free community car show. For those wishing to participate, contact the Chamber Office at 425-347-1456, or visit www.mukilteochamber.org and register your favorite.
