Explorer Middle School gymnast wins regional gymnastic title

Stephanie Alvine, an eighth grader at Explorer Middle School, earned the Region 2, Level 10, All-Around Championship in the Junior B age group, Friday, April 12, at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

Alvine achieved her personal best all-around score of 37.250 for the season. In the first rotation she scored a 9.25 on floor, which earned her second place. She then received a 9.475 and finished first in the vault. The third rotation was bars, where she received a 9.15, also a second-place finish. Alvine earned a 9.375 and won the beam in her final rotation.

With her first-place finish and qualifying score, Alvine had secured her spot at the upcoming Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships May 18-19 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Region 2 is comprised of gymnasts from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, and Montana.
