Explorer Middle School student wins state championship | Gymnastics

Harbour Pointe teammate places fifth in all-around

Stephanie Alvine, a seventh grader at Explorer Middle School, won the Washington State Level 9 Junior B Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 17.

Alvine scored 37.3 in the all-around, which was the highest score of the session and three age divisions. She also placed placed first in the balance beam with a score of 9.5, also the highest score during her session. Alvine finished third in the uneven bars, fourth in the vault and fifth in the floor.

She will be competing at regionals on April 14 in Tacoma. Region 2 is comprised of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Hawaii and Alaska. If Alvine qualifies there, she will move on to Westerns in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 3-6.

Teammate Kylee Carlson place fifth in the all-around with a score of 36.975 at Level 7. Carlson won a bronze medal in the uneven bars and was fourth in the balance beam.

Carlson is from Mukilteo and is a sixth grader at Harbour Pointe Middle School.
