The Edmonds Center for the Arts’ (ECA) Film Cabaret Series is back, and first up is a special Halloween screening of Alfred Hitchcock's iconic 1963 movie “The Birds” on Friday, Oct. 27.

The series features classic, contemporary and cult films that offer stunning cinematography and iconic music made to be experienced on the big screen.

The films are screened on ECA’s state-of-the-art digital cinema system and preceded by a cabaret-style happy hour on the ECA stage. Happy hours feature live performances by local artists, whose repertoire complements the themes, styles and music featured in each film.

“The Birds” is a modern Hitchcock masterpiece, and the director’s first film with Universal Studios. It is the apocalyptic story of a northern California coastal town filled with an onslaught of seemingly unexplained, arbitrary and chaotic attacks of ordinary birds. The film’s technical wizardry is extraordinary, especially in the film’s closing scene. The special visual effects of Ub Iwerks were nominated for an Academy Award.

Cabaret act Marina and the Dreamboats is set to open with a live backstage performance. Originally a rag-tag team of regular jammers on Mo’ Jam Mondays at The Nectar Lounge in Seattle, the group has opened for bands such as D’Vonne Lewis’ Limited Edition, 45th St Brass and Down North. Marina writes and arranges to her heart’s content for this army of a band, singing, playing bass and leading.

ECA’s Film Cabaret Series continues Jan. 12, 2018, with “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” On March 15, 2018, it’s “The Buena Vista Social Club,” and on April 26, 2018, it’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Cabaret acts are The Warren G. Hardings, Alma y Azúcar and The Jake Bergevin Quartet, respectively.

Cabaret events start at 6:30 p.m., with film screenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, and include admission to the pre-film cabaret. Film-only tickets are $10. A limited number of TeenTix for $5 are available at the door. Show Packs are available to patrons purchasing tickets to three or more film events in the Film Cabaret Series. Purchase Show Packs and single tickets online at, or through the ECA Box Office.

ECA’s Film Cabaret Series is made possible with the generous sponsorship of Dewar, Meeks & Ekrem and Salt & Iron.
