The Mukilteo Fire Department raised less money than in past years during the annual Fill the Boot fundraiser earlier this month.

This year, the firefighters raised $2,547.80. In 2015, they collected $3,653. Last year, they collected $5,175.

That could be the result of not fundraising at the Mukilteo ferry terminal’s holding lanes. Typically, the firefighters collect donations at the ferry terminal as well as the QFC off of the Mukilteo Speedway, but this year they stayed at the QFC.

“There was a paperwork mix-up, so we were unable to fund raise at the ferry this year,” said Kelli McNees of the Mukilteo Firefighters Local 3482 union.

Mukilteo area firefighters in Local 3482 serve the Muscular Dystrophy Association by volunteering every year for Fill the Boot drives and at MDA Summer Camp.

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) fundraiser aims to save and improve the lives of those fighting muscle disease in the Mukilteo area.

Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related life-threatening diseases affect the ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.

Funds raised through Mukilteo’s Fill the Boot event support research for the treatment of and cure for muscular dystrophy.
