Gallery North’s annual New Year show includes this work by Karen Towey of the sun rising over the Three Sisters.

Gallery North is putting on its annual show to bring in the New Year – this year’s theme is “Light and Bright.”

The artist members of the cooperative gallery will combine their talents to present a show that should help viewers feel a little warmer and happier in these dark days of winter.

The artists’ reception is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.  And as always, Gallery North will participate in the Edmonds Third Thursday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

Artist Kathleen A. Johnson feels a strong pull to bright and saturated colors. “It’s easy to be inspired to paint ‘light and bright’ this time of year, the days are short and often dark or chilly,” she said.

“Painting in warm and bright colors just makes me feel happier.”

Fellow artist Eve Ingraham said, “I love the remembrance of spring coming in the dark winter months... cold tones to warming pastels.”

Artist Joyce Donaldson agreed, saying, “This time of year, I think of color and outdoor things! These are my own reminders that spring is just around the corner.”

Karen Towey explained that her painting of the sun rising over the Three Sisters was inspired by the quote, “At sunrise everything is luminous, but not clear.”

Come share in the luminous light at Gallery North this month at 401 Main St., Edmonds.
