As strange as it may sound, a piece of cloth was donated to Mayor Jennifer Gregerson last Friday, Nov. 17.

That may not seem too interesting at first, but that piece of cloth is over 40 years old and was a gift to former Mukilteo Mayor Jerry Lavell during his time as Mukilteo’s mayor.

Lavell was the fifth mayor of Mukilteo, serving in office in 1972-73.

Members of his family decided that, even though the interesting piece of cloth had sentimental value, it would be a neat gift to donate to Gregerson.

The cloth reads, “Mayor of Mukil what” and was created by Jennifer Pederson, a childhood friend of Lavell’s children.

Gregerson said she plans on finding a spot on her wall to hang her interesting memento.

Two of Lavell’s children, Susan Lavell Warm and Anna Zook, were there to give Gregerson the gift alongside their children Elle, Lily, Tom, Marcella, Danny and Keira, who got to see the portrait of Jerry Lavell next to all the other past mayors of Mukilteo.

Gregerson made sure the children didn’t go empty-handed, giving each of them a pin and showing the family her office after taking photos with her new gift.

Gregerson had her hands full with answering questions about why she got into public office, what her duties are as mayor as well as where she went to school.
