Coach: Steve Merkley

Number of athletes: 65 in the program

Last season: The Knights finished the season with a 15-9 record, advancing to the district tournament.

Strengths: “Geoff Lee, he's our starting short stop last year, he was all-league. He's a good one,” said head coach Steve Merkley. “Alex Pettibone was also all-league and only one pitcher who's had starting experience. Jake Long, he's going to help us a lot. We really only have a couple returning.”

Focus: “Defense and making contact with the ball,” said the coach. “They are all new and varsity is a big jump from JV. It's going to be a rough start, plus we play all the top teams in the first half, but we expect to make the playoffs and we'll improve all year long.”

The captains said they are excited to get the season going, and hope to make it to state this year, as the team was just one win away last spring.

Games to watch: “Cascade will probably be the preseason No. 1 ranked team in the whole state,” said Merkley. “Our league is really good at baseball, everybody.”

The Knights will face Cascade on April 22 at Cascade High School and start the season at home against Shorewood on March 19.
