Kamiak stayed close to Glacier Peak until the fourth quarter when the Grizzlies scored a pair of touchdowns to seal a 35-14 victory in a Wesco 4A football game Friday, Oct. 20, at Goddard Stadium.

The Grizzlies took a 14-0 first quarter lead when junior quarterback Ayden Ziomas connected on touchdown passes of 33 and 39 yards to senior wide receiver Connor Stroup.

Kamiak (0-6 in the league, 1-7 overall) responded with a 13-yard pass from junior quarterback Matt Merk to senior wide receiver Cole Ebert to cut the deficit to 14-6.

Ziomas threw a 41-yard TD pass to senior wide receiver Bo Burns to extend Glacier Peak’s advantage to 21-6.

The Knights again responded with a 6-yard touchdown run by senior running back Ben Barton and a successful 2-point conversion pass from Merk to Ebert. Kamiak went into halftime trailing 21-14.

After a scoreless third quarter, Ziomas found junior wide receiver Evan Mannes on a 7-yard scoring strike and JohnPaul Anderson ran 27 yards for a touchdown.

Barton rushed for 89 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown and Ebert caught four passes for 23 yards. Junior wide receiver Malachi Goodman had four receptions for 30 yards. Merk completed 8 of 24 passes for 66 yards and one touchdown.

Friday’s game was one of the few times that pass-happy Glacier Peak actually accumulated more yards on the ground – 246 – than through the air – 193.

Kamiak closes out its league play schedule against Cascade at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Knights then will play a crossover game in two weeks against a yet-to-be determined opponent to wrap up the 2017 season.
