Kamiak beats Jackson in Wesco clash | Boys swimming and diving

Kamiak easily topped arch rival Jackson in a battle between two of the Wesco 4A’s best boys swimming and diving teams.

Depth lifted the Knights to a 115-68 victory over the Timberwolves on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Kamiak High School.

Freshman Vlad Gilszmer won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.92 and 500 freestyle in 4:45.74 to lead the Knights. Both of Gilszmer's times were state cuts.

Sophomore Maxwell Fang finished first in the 100 butterfly in a state cut time of 53.28 and took second in the 200 individual medley in a state cut of 2:00.58, behind two-time defending state champion Jonathan Cook.

Also winning for the Knights were diver Cameron Dockens and sophomore Brian Park in the 50 freestyle. Park’s time of 22.04 was a state cut.

The Knights’ 400 freestyle relay team of Fang, Alex Kirby, Slava Gilszmer and Vlad Gilszmer took first in a season’s best and state qualifying time of 3:15.98. Kamiak’s 200 medley relay squad of Vlad Gilszmer, Walter Limm, Fang and Park also won in a state cut of 1:38.34.

Also meeting the state time standard were Kirby in the 100 freestyle and Kamiak’s 200 freestyle relay (Kirby, Park, Lim and Slava Gilszmer). Limm also had a state cut in the 100 breaststroke, where he finished second behind Cook.

The 4A district meet is Thursday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 10, at Snohomish Aquatic Center.
