Knights lose 1-0 in winner-to-state game

After scoring eight goals in their first two district playoff games, Kamiak was shut out by Lake Stevens in its final contest of the season.

The Vikings defeated the Knights 1-0 in a winner-to-state/loser-out Northwest District girls soccer game Saturday, Nov. 4, at Edmonds Stadium.

Lake Stevens, which lost in a shootout to Wesco 4A champion Jackson in the district title game, defeated Kamiak 1-0 and also played to a scoreless tie in two regular season contests.

Jadyn Bush scored the winning goal in the second half.

The Knights finished the season 12-5-1. Lake Stevens, 14-3-1, was scheduled to play Kennedy Catholic in a first round state game on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Kamiak opened the district tournament with a decisive 5-0 victory over Monroe in a loser-out game on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Kamiak High School.

Sarah Nehring, Kailin Wiley, Anna Lau, Savannah Congdon and Abby Kyles all scored goals.

The Knights then defeated Glacier Peak 3-1 in another loser-out contest on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Goddard Stadium. Hunter Beirne, Abby Selbeck and Nehring had the goals for Kamiak, which lost 2-0 to the Grizzlies in the regular season finale. Haley Grambo scored Glacier Peak’s goal.

Kamiak will graduate eight seniors, including defenders Kamryn Adcock, Madison Gilbert, Julia Nunnally and Nehring, midfielder/defender Jenny Wrobel, midfielder Sidney Schmidt, forward Kailin Wiley and forward/midfielder Mackenzie Gilbert.
