The inaugural Jake Long Memorial Baseball Tournament is scheduled for June 30-July 2 at Kamiak High School.

All proceeds from the tournament will go towards the establishment and long-term sustainability of the Jake Long Memorial Scholarship and the Coach Frank Nickerson Memorial Scholarship, which are awarded to two deserving Kamiak senior baseball players.

While at Kamiak, Long was a standout baseball player and student leader who continues to inspire his former teammates and classmates to be at their best by following his example of treating everyone with respect and kindness. Nickerson was a beloved teacher and baseball coach at Kamiak High School.

In 2017, Kamiak Athletic Booster Club  (KABC) awarded the Jake Long Memorial Scholarship to Isaiah Shigematsu and the Coach Frank Nickerson Memorial Scholarship to Joshua Silva. These two senior baseball players best fit the criteria for the scholarships that were established in partnership with Long and Nickerson’s families, KABC, and the Kamiak athletic department.

Organizers of the Jake Long Memorial Tournament are collaborating with Ray Atkinson (Chaffey) and Darren Watkins (Seattle Tides) to build a great baseball showcase and prestigious tournament for players and coaches.

The 7 p.m. game on June 30 will feature two Northwest Bandits teams. The Northwest Bandits was the summer baseball organization that Jake Long played for throughout his high school career.

A special opening ceremony prior to the game will honor Long and Nickerson’s living legacy and also dedicate the tournament to their families and to the Mukilteo community. Admission is free for all games.
