Kamiak junior quarterback Matt Merk played his best game of the season, throwing for 312 yards, but Cascade defeated the Knights 58-20 in a Wesco 4A football game Friday, Oct. 27, at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Merk completed 24 of 40 passes and threw for three touchdowns. Merk made 12 straight pass completions to start the game.

Kamiak coach Dan Mack said that Merk finally was healthy and that made a significant difference.

“He threw the ball fantastically,” Mack said. “I was so impressed.”

Senior wide receiver Joseph Prikhodko set a school record with 13 receptions. He finished with 160 yards and one touchdown.

Senior wide receiver Matarr Saine caught 10 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Cole Ebert had four catches for 32 yards.

Kamiak struggled to get its ground game against the Bruins. The Knights finished with only 10 total yards on 16 carries.

Kamiak (0-7 in the league, 1-8 overall) led 14-8 after the first quarter but then was outscored 22-6 by Cascade (3-4, 5-4), which went into halftime with a 30-20 lead.

The Bruins scored 28 points in the second half, while the Knights did not score.

As it has all season, Kamiak battled hard against Cascade.

“I was very proud to be their coach,” said Mack, who praised the Knights’ attitude and effort throughout the 2017 season.
