Kamiak, Mariner golfers advance to state; Robison qualifies for state tennis tourney

Kamiak’s Alvin Kwak earned medalist honors and helped lead the Knights to the 4A District boys golf championship Tuesday, May 14, at Snohomish Golf Course.

Kwak won the individual title in a 4-hole playoff. All six Knights – Kwak, Josh Clogston, Devin Kim, Daniel Kim, Alex Kim and Whistler Pascual – qualified for the state tournament.

Kamiak scored 571 ahead of second place Glacier Peak, which had 613. The 4A state boys golf championships are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21-22, at The Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.

Mariner’s Jazz Caparas took first place in the 4A District girls golf tournament Tuesday, May 14, at Camaloch Golf Course. Kamiak’s Jane Kim and Regina Park placed second and third and helped lead the Knights to the team title. Glacier Peak finished second.

Joining Kim and Park at state are teammates Megan Martin, Kailey Rohwer and HeeYung Kim.

Kamiak’s Leah Robison finished second in the 4A District 1 singles girls tennis tournament.

The junior standout lost 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Monroe senior Bryanna Schmidt in the finals and then defeated Jackson’s Mina Jamshidpour 6-1, 6-2 in the second/third match. Robison qualified for the 4A state tournament Friday and Saturday, May 24-25 at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club and Hanford High School in Richland.
