Kamiak names next principal

The Mukilteo School District has announced the appointment of Dr. Eric Hong to be the next principal of Kamiak High School.

Hong has extensive experience with high school management and development, including raising literacy achievement for students and implementing programs to increase access to rigorous courses for all students.

He will replace Mike Gallagher, who will retire at the end of the school year after leading the school for the past 10 years.

Hong has for the past eight years been the School Improvement Officer for High Schools for the Kent School District, where he supervises and evaluates high schools and principals and supports them with school improvement planning, instructional leadership coaching, and curriculum alignment.

Prior to that he served as principal of the Technology, Engineering, and Communications High School in the Highline School District and was assistant principal of Kentridge High School in the Kent School District.

He started his career in education as a technology teacher in the Seattle School District.

Hong’s academic background includes a doctorate degree from the University of Washington in educational leadership and policy studies, a master’s degree in teaching from Seattle University, and bachelor’s degrees in construction management as well as architecture and urban planning.
