Kamiak senior claims two medals at 4A meet | Track and field

Anderson places sixth in 3,200, seventh in 1,600

Kamiak’s Alicia Anderson wrapped up her stellar high school career by advancing to the finals in two events at the 4A state girls track and field championships.

Anderson finished sixth in the 3,200-meter race in 10 minutes, 56.57 seconds, Saturday, May 25, at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Former teammate Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens won the race.

The Kamiak senior standout placed seventh in the 1,600 in 5:04.52 on Thursday, May 23. Anderson also ran a leg on the Knights’ 1,600 relay squad along with Isabela Ceniceros, Tracey Hatch and Abby Kyles that placed 11th in 4:05.88.

Senior Tara Koonce placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 5 inches and junior Ava Manning took 13th in the high jump with a mark of 4-10.

Kamiak freshman Nathan Warner finished 11th in the boys high jump and matched his career best mark of 5-10.

Mariner sophomore Sebastian Wanjiru placed 14th in the 100 in 11.81.

STATE TENNIS: Kamiak’s Leah Robison went 1-2 at the 4A state girls tennis championships on Friday, May 24. Robison lost 7-4 (4), 6-3 to Wenatchee’s Chloe Andrewjeski in the first round but then rebounded to defeat Graham-Kapowsin’s Emily Schelbert 6-0, 6-1. Robison then fell 6-1, 6-1 to Richland’s Quinci Fisher in a loser-out match.
