Kamiak coach Beth Stewart is retiring after 13 years at the helm of the girls soccer program.

“It’s just time to step down and do some different things,” Stewart said. “It’s been a great run. It’s definitely bittersweet.”

Stewart has been a coach in one capacity or another for more than 30 years. She’s spent 20 years in the Mukilteo School District. Stewart was the head girls varsity coach at Mariner High School for three years and also coached soccer and track and field at Olympic View Middle School. She’s also been an assistant coach with Kamiak’s track and field program.

The Knights compiled a 130-55-18 overall record and advanced to the district tournament every year during Stewart’s tenure.

Kamiak won one district title and made three appearances in the state tournament.

Stewart played soccer at Pacific Lutheran University and coached club soccer for 30 years.

One of those players included Stewart’s daughter Kelli, and that eventually led Stewart to Kamiak. Stewart coached her daughter, who went on to continue her soccer career at the University of Washington.

“It was fun to watch her at the University of Washington,” Stewart said. “I enjoyed coaching her so much.”

Stewart also has three sons - Joshua, Ben and Sam - who all attended Kamiak and are now serving in the military.

“It was great to be a part of the community,” Stewart said. “I’m really going to miss that.”

Stewart plans are to play more golf and to spend time with her family. She definitely will miss her Kamiak soccer family, though.

“The highlight of my year was coaching those girls,” Stewart said.

Stewart stays in contact with many of her former players, some of which continued their soccer careers in college and the others who moved on to other pursuits.

“I’m hoping that I made a difference in their lives,” Stewart said. “It’s much bigger than soccer. That’s always been the case.”
