Kamiak’s Anderson takes first | Cross country

Kamiak’s Alicia Anderson and Glacier Peak’s Riley McDowell won their respective races during a Wesco cross country meet Thursday, Oct. 5, at Kamiak High School.

Anderson finished the 2.6-mile girls race through the Kamiak campus in 16 minutes, 48 seconds. McDowell captured the boys race in 14:18.

Glacier Peak’s Alexis Palmer finished behind Anderson in 16:52 and was followed by Kamiak’s Leah Clark (16:55), Glacier Peak’s Brooke Wallace and Lynnwood’s Brooke Schroeder. Kamiak’s Tracey Hatch placed ninth and Gloria Lee was 14th.

Kamiak’s Carp Mukai took second in the boys race. He was followed by Glacier Peak’s Tim Mandzyuk, Nathan Tastad and Elijah Lopez.

Kamiak’s Jason Blinn finished 14th and Christopher Clarke, Owen Cromwell and Ethan Mueller were 16th, 17th and 18th overall.

Glacier Peak won the girls competition, scoring 27 points. Kamiak took second with 42, Marysville-Getchell was third with 77 and Lynnwood placed fourth with 89.

The Grizzlies also won the boys race with 19 points. Kamiak finished second with 63 points and was followed by Marysville-Getchell (75) and Lynnwood (90).

At the Max Jensen Richland Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6, Clark placed eighth and Anderson finished ninth.

Mariner’s Lopez grabs 3rd place

Mariner senior Brandon Lopez finished third in the boys race in a Wesco meet Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Arlington High School. Teammate Sam Hernandez placed 14th and Gunnar Steen and Giovanni Sanchez-Cruz were 21st and 22nd.

In the girls race, Mariner’s Kara Sevigny took ninth and Suzy Pace was 10th. Kyla Ojalehto took 13th and Esmeralda Reyes placed 22nd. The Mariner boys were fourth overall behind Oak Harbor, Arlington and Mount Vernon. Arlington captured the girls competition and was followed by Arlington, Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor, Mariner and Cascade.

At the Leavenworth Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7, Sevigny and Ojalehto placed 23rd and 24th. Lopez was 42nd.
