Kamiak senior Tara Koonce set a meet record with a throw of 144 feet, 11 inches in the 4kg hammer throw at the Lil’ Norway Invitational on Saturday, April 13.

The throw also was a Kamiak school record, a new personal best and the state’s top best mark.

Training partner Kim Beard of Northshore Christian Academy hurled a new personal best of 125-2 with the junior weighted implement of 2kg, placing her in the national lead.

In the shot put, Koonce tossed a season’s best of 37-10.5 for second and capped an excellent performance with a second place finish in the discus. Koonce outscored four teams as a solo competitor. Kamiak throwers now hold records at the meet for girls hammer and both boys hammer and discus.
