Riaz Khan, president of the Islamic Center of Mukilteo, attended the Washington State Labor Council conference as a delegate for the 21st Legislative District.

The meeting was in Olympia and took place on Feb. 1 and 2.

“I met with other senators and state representatives including Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self (D, Mukilteo),” Khan said. “My main concern and discussion was on how to control drug related issues in the 21st Legislative District.

“Being a long-time resident of Mukilteo, I see that drugs and gangs are increasing in Mukilteo and I am requesting all the residents should work together to eliminate this problem.”

Khan recently ran for Mukilteo City Council and has been working on getting a mosque built in the city of Mukilteo.

Khan has said he hopes the mosque will be a place for children to do activities and homework.

The mosque would be on Harbour Pointe Boulevard.
