Knights take fifth at state tournament | Girls tennis

Kamiak Angela Lee and Haley Gilbert brought home fifth place medals from the 4A state girls tennis doubles championships.

Lee and Gilbert, who won the district title, rebounded to win three matches after dropping their state opener.

The Kamiak duo defeated Hanford’s  Milena Stankovic and Siena Stephens 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the fifth/eighth place match Saturday, May 26, in Richland. Lee and Gilbert defeated University’s Sophie Ordndorff-Maygan Osbord 6-1, 6-3 and also beat Olympia’s  Natalie Stagnone-Cydne Wooten 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the medal round.

Lee and Gilbert defeated Monroe’s Brynne Schmidt and Savannah Thoma 6-3, 6-1 to claim the 4A District championship Wednesday, May 17, at Glacier Peak High School.

Mariner’s Winner Chen placed fourth in the singles tournament.
