Letter: 2018, a year of positivity

Jan 03, 2018

Chief Kang is right: Kindness matters (“Kindness matters” was a letter to the editor by Mukilteo Police Chief Cheol Kang, in the Oct. 11 edition of the Mukilteo Beacon).

Inspired by children’s random acts of kindness, he suggests we join them and make kindness the norm.

In addition, let’s point out kind acts when we see them.

Like the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) working to give 263 million kids in our world the chance to finally go to school.

Congress is so impressed with this idea that there are bipartisan resolutions in the House (466) and Senate (286) supporting it.

If funded in February of 2018, the GPE will partner with countries to put 25 million of these children in school.

Here is a chance to reinforce kindness in our world: thank reps. Larsen, DelBene, Smith, Heck, Kilmer and Herrera Beutler for cosponsoring the resolution in the House, introduced by Washington’s Dave Reichert, and ask Senators Murray and Cantwell to join them, cosponsoring Senate Resolution 286.

It’s a great way to spend meaningful time with children, showing them how democracy works.

Let’s create a 2018 as the year we focus on the positive!
