Letter: Campaign is independent

Oct 11, 2017

Residents of Mukilteo,

As a student of history and a first generation immigrant to these great United States of America, there is no more humbling and honored feeling than having the opportunity to run for elected office and give back to this great community.

When I decided to run for position 1, I committed to both my campaign team and myself that I would run a clean campaign that focuses on the attributes and experiences that I feel I would be a positive addition to the council.

Over the last few days I have been approached by several individuals who were concerned that they had heard that I was part of a slate of candidates and closely aligned with certain individuals running for other positions on the council.

This accusation is not only unfounded and untrue, it goes against everything I pledged at the start of the campaign.

I have nothing negative to say about any of the candidates running for office, and I believe that it takes great courage and heart to step up to run for elected office.

Each candidate, including my opponent, deserves to campaign on their respective platforms and ideas to improve our city.

I am running because I want to bring my experience and perspective to the council. I have not endorsed any other candidates in this election because I am focused on sharing my passion and vision for Mukilteo.

Over the period of the last several months I have had the great privilege to meet so many of you, hear your ideas, concerns and hopes for the future of Mukilteo. No matter the outcome of this election, I feel deeply connected to our city and those who reside here.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to run for City Council Position 1.

Sincerely,

James Yoo
