Letter: Handa’s story an example of youth in action

Oct 04, 2017

Thanks for sharing Sargun Handa’s story of the power of community service (“Finding purpose through service,” Nicholas Johnson, Sept. 27).

I have seen this in action, volunteering with results.org. Every year, 75-100 Real Change Scholars ages 18 to 30 learn to advocate for ending hunger and poverty in our country and our world. This includes health care, education and safety net issues.

Currently, advocates are working to protect the SNAP program – formerly food stamps – in America and giving the 263 million kids and youth in our world a chance to finally go to school. Together, we can make a difference.
