Letter: Kneller embraces all political points of view

Aug 30, 2017

After living in Mukilteo for more than 30 years, I’ve seen many City Council members come and go. I’ve voted for a plethora of mayors, council members, school board members and so forth.

One thing that I’ve noticed in most of our successful elected officials is the ability to reach out to and work with people from all sides of the political spectrum. That quality is something I’ve only seen in Sarah Kneller in the race for Position 3.

The essence of our municipal races is that they are non-partisan. It’s a non-partisan race because the county auditor’s office doesn’t ask candidates to state a party preference, but that doesn’t mean candidates shouldn’t seek support from parties.

In fact, I think all candidates should be seeking support from both sides; it shows that they are willing to have conversations and answer the hard questions from more than people who agree with them. It’s even more refreshing to see candidates win support from both sides, as Sarah has.

As a Republican and conservative voter, I’m proud to support Sarah because she has proven time and again she can work with diverse groups. I admire her outside-the-box, fresh ideas, and I think it’s that perspective that’s needed on council.

This November, I will cast my vote as not a republican but as a conservative citizen of Mukilteo. I look beyond party lines and I look at the candidate. I will support Sarah because she’s the type of person capable of building coalitions.
