Letter: Let’s all pledge to run positive campaigns

Jun 07, 2017

This election cycle marks the first time in a long time Mukilteo has seen so much interest in municipal elections. As a resident and community activist, it is thrilling to witness in your community; as a candidate, it’s a little intimidating.

One of the things I have noticed is candidates tend to use these letters to attack each other, whether it be subtly or overtly. Aren’t we running because we have something positive to offer the community we all love? In the spirit of a united community, I offer the following pledge to my fellow council candidates:

I, Sarah Kneller, pledge to run my campaign without any negativity directed toward my opponents. I will direct my staff, volunteers and supporters to refrain from saying negative things about other candidates on my behalf. I will listen to, learn from and positively engage with my fellow candidates, while recognizing that we all bring something to the table; above all I will run for this office in a respectful manner.

That is the pledge I make not only to my opponents, but also to my family and all of Mukilteo. I want to be an example for my children; Steve and I have taught them from the beginning that win or lose, you always do what’s right.

I want to give my community somebody to vote for, not against. I hope the other candidates will join me in making this pledge.

Sarah L. Kneller
City Council Candidate, Position 3
