Letter: Liias should lay off Trump’s tax returns

May 17, 2017

Editor’s Note: Running as a Republican, Jeff Scherrer of Edmonds unsuccessfully challenged Democratic incumbent state Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self of Mukilteo in 2014 and 2016 to represent the 21st Legislative District. Marko Liias of Everett currently represents the 21st Legislative District in the state Senate, and previously represented the district in the state House of Representatives from 2008 to 2014.

Recently, I received something from Washington state Sen. Marko Liias explaining his efforts to require future presidential candidates to provide personal income tax returns.

Many Democrats still cannot accept that Democrats lost the presidential election and continue to chase rabbits to make life difficult for President Trump.

What is Sen. Liias doing to create more middle-income jobs, for Washington state? What is he doing to improve education performance, for Washington state? What is he doing to keep taxes under control, for Washington state?

What is he doing to address the opioid epidemic or the homeless crisis, for Washington state? What is he doing to get health insurance costs under control, for Washington state? What is he doing to keep us secure, in Washington state?

Is he working for Washington state?

No, the 21st Legislative District Senator spends his time like many other Democrats: in denial of the fact that President Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States and is working hard to “Make America Great Again.”

Releasing President Trump’s personal tax returns would only provide activist liberals more information to be used for harassment and boycotts similar to those launched against Ivanka Trump’s successful businesses.

My state senator should keep his eyes on his own paper and work to improve things here in Washington state. I prefer my state senator to focus on the issues that would “Make Washington State Great Again.”

About requiring personal tax returns by President Trump, I suggest Sen. Liias remember what Hillary Clinton so famously said: “At this point, what difference does it make?”
