Letter: Our schools rock

Jan 24, 2018

One of my sisters was in town last week from Colorado for a job interview.

I have no doubt that she will win the position, so she is feverishly looking for a place to put down roots and raise her family.

Of course, I strongly recommended our great little city!

Besides its obvious charm and small town feeling, my sister was amazed as my 14-year-old daughter regaled about her experience thus far in our incredible school district.

The stories included (and this is a 14-year-old!) welcoming feelings as a freshman, graduation rates, show band, choir and the drama department.

This was such a great reminder of one of the many bright lights in our great community! I’m a 17-year resident of Mukilteo and have witnessed example after example of why/how the Mukilteo School District has such high state and national ratings.

Our great school district is a huge draw for families as students continue to be enriched with not only state of the art instruction for mathematics, the sciences and effective communication, but are exposed to programs for the arts in a way not shared by the majority of school districts across the country.

In a time where so many of my tax dollars seem to find their way down the proverbial governmental rabbit hole, funding things I don’t believe in or have seemingly little benefit to my family and/or community, I take great pride and satisfaction in knowing that the portion of my property taxes that are earmarked for school bonds and levies, actually go towards their intended purpose!

I’m so very proud of our city and our school district.

Our children really are our future!

The decisions we make today will impact our community for generations to come.

Please join me in voting YES for the Education Program and Technology Capital Projects Levies on your ballot this February!

Thank you, in advance!
