Letter: Thank you Mukilteo!

Nov 08, 2017

As the campaign season ends, I want to express my sincere thanks to my neighbors and friends for their kindness and support during this time.

Jan and I have enjoyed meeting with many people and “digging deep” into the concerns and issues facing our fair city.  So many of you care deeply, like we do, for the direction and future of Mukilteo and it has been a pleasure to meet and discuss these concerns with many of you.  I wish time and circumstances had allowed us to meet and dialogue with more of you.  Our goal has always been to speak truth to power, with compassion and confidence – trusting the voters.

Citizenship in a republic is an awesome right and responsibility as we are all blessed with the privilege to engage and evaluate our elected leaders from time-to-time.  Our responsibility to be fully informed and involved is our biggest challenge and weakness.  The low voter turnout in our area and state is a clear indication that many people don’t know and don’t care about the politics of the marketplace. Unfortunately, this apathy and lack of being informed is our Achilles heel and does not serve us well.

I will always encourage my friends and neighbors to be informed, interested and involved in the affairs of our community at every level, as it is the backbone of our society.  The fact that you have read this far is a probable indicator of how much you care and are aware.  Thanks so much for your involvement.

Whoever prevails in the many contests – in our city and in surrounding areas – I hope that a true “community conversation” will ensue and continue, blossoming in a renewed interest and call for openness and good, ethical government at every level.  May integrity, openness, accountability and excellence become the rule at every level of government, as the power brokers give way to the voice and vision of an informed citizenry, and may this be part of the legacy we pass on to future generations.

No thank you for the personal and reprehensible attacks on my friend, the reelected Mayor Jennifer Gregerson.  Those unnecessary attacks cut like a knife.  You are cleared to take off of the active at Paine Field and fly south or north or east.  The rest of us have heavy lifting to do.
