Letter to the editor

Many thanks for last issue

Thanks for this week’s issue that inspired via one woman’s efforts to pay back the hospital that saved her life twice, created understanding with one man’s story about Ramadan, and had a Mother’s Day “cartoon” worthy of being cut out and used on the front of a card for a mom.  (Mukilteo Beacon, May 8, 2019).

This is the kind of good news we need to read more often. Like the changes going on in our world right now: Every day 137,000 people rise above extreme poverty, more than one billion people have lifted themselves out of extreme poverty since 2000.

Deaths from the world’s deadliest pandemics, Tuberculosis, AIDS, and Malaria have been cut by at least one-third, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria is ready to continue to its life-saving work with renewed funding this October. Since its founding in 2002, the Global Fund has saved 27 million lives, strengthened health care systems, and kept us on the road to finally controlling these killers.

Let’s keep this good news coming by asking our representatives to continue America’s leadership in this battle, inspiring other donors by our unwavering support and bold pledge this fall.

Our calls and letters with this request can help usher in the AIDS-free generation.
