Local graduates earn recognition

Two Kamiak High School and one Mariner High School graduate earned postseason athletic honors.

Kamiak graduate Kailin Wiley, a freshman women’s soccer player at Edmonds Community College was honored as the North Region MVP for her performance this season.

Wiley finished with 16 goals (third North, sixth in NWAC), 7 assists (third North, 11th NWAC), 39 points (second North, sixth NWAC), 57 shots (third North, sixth NWAC), and 44 shots on goal (third North, fourth NWAC).

Kamiak graduate Henderson Belk and Mariner graduate Curtis Billen were third-team, All-Big Sky Football selections. Belk, who played tight end, earned recognition as a fullback in his senior year. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder caught 10 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns this season. Belk was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team in 2015-2017. Billen, a senior long snapper, earned special teams honors. Eastern Washington received a total of 24 honors. The Eagles host Nicholls State in a FCS playoff game on Saturday, Dec. 1.
