Mariner High School has gone in-house to fill two recent coaching openings.

Two teachers at the high school were hired to be the new girls basketball and boys soccer coaches.

Jamie Gepner is the new head girls basketball coach, replacing former coach Corey Gibb, who is now at Jackson.

Gepner, a math teacher, was the junior varsity coach last year and previously coached the C-team.

The Marauders advanced to the district playoffs the last three seasons and posted two victories earlier this year, the first district wins in at least 20 years.

Henry Busch takes over the boys soccer program, succeeding longtime coach Vince DeSimone, who wrapped up his 14th year with the program. Busch, who teaches science, coached the C team.

The Marauders missed out on the district playoff this season but consistently made the postseason throughout DeSimone’s tenure as head coach.

Mariner athletic director Kyle Axelson said the school is excited to have two coaches who also teach in the building.

“We don’t have a lot of in-house coaches,” he said. “It makes a big difference.”
