Mariner, Kamiak visitors must now show ID

In an effort to improve safety, the Mukilteo School District launched a pilot program Feb. 6 at Mariner and Kamiak high schools requiring visitors to show government-issued identification.

Upon presenting ID to an administrative assistant in the main office, visitors are issued a temporary self-expiring stick-on badge imprinted with the school’s name, visitor’s name, current date and time, and destination on campus. An administrative assistant records the same information on a sign-in sheet.

The schools have been provided DYMO Labelwriter 450 thermal printers for printing the badges, which void after 24 hours.

Visitors must return to the main office to check out before leaving campus. An administrative assistant collects a visitor’s badge and records the time of departure.
