Mayor a strong voice for Paine Field | Letter

Oct 30, 2013

Editor, The Beacon:

Mayor Joe Marine has been outspoken about Mukilteo’s opposition to commercial air service at Paine Field. His strategy of pointing out the value of promoting aerospace manufacturing jobs over commercial service is being heard.

As someone who is involved in economic development issues in the state, I have seen Mayor Marine effectively make the argument that commercial flights would eventually put a squeeze on aerospace manufacturing operations at Paine Field.

The impact of the aerospace industry in Snohomish County is tremendous and we need to protect it.

Mayor Marine worked effectively with Save Our Communities to push the state to acknowledge that Paine Field with aerospace manufacturing creates $20 billion in economic activity, something that was not even being considered in the state aviation and airport study.

Aerospace manufacturing needs to be promoted, not jeopardized. We should thank Mayor Marine for taking this message throughout the region and to our elected leaders at the state and federal level!

We need to support and promote the Mayor’s vision and strategy for increasing aerospace manufacturing and training in and around Paine Field.

Not only does aerospace bring in higher paying and long term jobs, it brings a higher quality of living for our neighborhoods, families and our future generations and provides the best argument against commercial service at Paine Field.
