The Mukilteo Community Orchestra has their second concert of the season coming up.

This free concert is Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. at the Rosehill Community Center.

The concert will be preceded by a lecture by conductor and artistic director Trevor Lutzenhiser at 1:20 pm.

This concert features 19th and 20th century Italian composers. It includes the works of Gioacchino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, Pietro Mascagni, Amilcare Ponchielli and Ottorino Respighi.

The first half of the concert will begin with Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville.  It will be followed by Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo and Puccini’s Manon Lescaut: Intermezzo Act III. Ponchielli’s La Gioconda:  Dance of the Hours will close out the first half of the concert.

The second half of the concert will feature Ottorino Respighi’s Pines of Rome.

It premiered in 1924 in Rome and is Respighi’s tribute to scenes around his country’s capital, some contemporary and some recalling the glory of the Roman Empire.

“This is Respighi’s most frequently performed work and one that the Mukilteo Community Orchestra is pleased to bring to our audience,” said Trevor Lutzenhiser, conductor and artistic director. “We are excited to perform all of these inspiring Italian works. I selected them to showcase the variety and nature of Italian classical literature. Each has its own character but in all, they are beautiful, rich and sonorous, playful and emotive.”

Admission for the concert is free.
