Mukilteo Elementary School Principal Ausencio “Cinco” Delgado has resigned after nearly a year on the job.

The Mukilteo School District hired Delgado last summer for the 2016-17 school year. Kamiak High School’s former assistant principal of 12 years Pat Schmidt will serve as interim principal for the remainder of the school year.

“We realize this is sudden news for your school community, yet we are glad that Mrs. Schmidt has accepted this role for the remainder of the year,” Superintendent Marcie Larsen wrote in a May 17 letter to parents.

“We are happy to welcome Pat back to our school team. She has 43 years of experience in education.”

Delgado came to Mukilteo Elementary after serving as chief academic officer in the Marysville School District, according to a July 2016 Facebook post by Mukilteo Elementary PTSA. He had previously worked in the Edmonds, Shoreline, Tahoma and Stanwood-Camano school districts.

District spokesperson Andy Muntz said the district has advertised the position and will follow its usual procedure for filling it with a full-time principal. Ultimately, the principal will make the final call, but staff and parent representatives will have a chance to weigh in, he said.

The school district has also recently made several administrator appointments. Karen Mooseker will be the district’s new executive director of support services, Amy Montanye will be the new principal of ACES High School, and Michaela Trexel will be a new elementary assistant principal.

Mooseker comes to Mukilteo from the Northshore School District and will oversee the operations of the school district’s capital projects, facilities, construction, publications, and transportation and safety departments.

Montanye is currently the principal of Two Rivers Alternative School in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, and Trexel is currently the dean of students at Olivia Park Elementary.
