Mukilteo Little League's team of 9 and 10-year-old softball all stars take second at state tournament

The Mukilteo Little League 9-10-year-old all-star softball team placed second in the state tournament July 7-14 in Cheney.

Mukilteo opened with a 20-1 victory over Camas and then had a tough second round match-up against eventual champion Bellevue, which ended in a 4-3 loss. Bellevue scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Having to battle its way through the losers’ bracket in the double-elimination tournament, Mukilteo bounced back with back-to-back 11-0 victories against South Hill and Battle Ground.

The all-stars then beat North Kitsap 10-6 and defeated Woodinville 7-2, setting up a rematch with Bellevue for the title.

Mukilteo took a 6-1 lead after two innings and relied upon pitching and defense the rest of the way for an 8-4 victory, setting up a third meeting with Bellevue for the state crown.

Unfortunately, Mukilteo lost 10-0 to finish second, but the all-stars finished with the most victories in the week-long tournament  Mukilteo went 6-2 for the tournament, outscoring its opponents 70-27. The all-stars hit close to .400 as a team with Synclair Mawudeku, Nichelle Adams, and Emma Barrett leading the way. The RBI leaders were Tyler Karabach, Emma “Chipper” Stansfield, and Nichelle Adams. The team was aggressive, as usual, on the basepaths with 38 total steals. The pitching was handled by Tyler Karabach and Synclair Mawudeku, backed up by the entire team’s outstanding defense.

The 9-10-year-old all-stars are: Nichelle Adams, Emma Barrett, Aurora Boelter, Hayden Downer, Frances Famatiga, Tyler Karabach, Akemi Kolar, Alexa Marcelo, Synclair Mawudeku, Haylee Osborn, Mia Semith, Emma Stansfield, Isabella Torres. The coaches were: Ryan Karabach, Curt Kolar, Sumeet Adams, Ed Hansen, Luis Famatiga.
