Mukilteo local named editor of the Mukilteo Beacon

Oct 11, 2017

Brandon Gustafson, 22, is the newest member of the Mukilteo Beacon’s staff, having been named the new editor and reporter.

Gustafson is a recent graduate of the University of Washington, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism this past June.

Having grown up in Mukilteo, he attended Mukilteo Elementary, Olympic View Middle School, and Kamiak High School where he was a member of the school’s baseball team.

Upon graduating from Kamiak, Gustafson attended Shoreline Community College for two years where he earned his associate’s degree while playing for the school’s baseball team before transferring to the University of Washington.

While attending the University of Washington, Gustafson had multiple stories published by various publications in the greater Seattle area, and interned for 710 ESPN Seattle during his senior year.

Gustafson’s interest in journalism stems from reading the newspaper every morning and listening to various radio stations while in the car with his parents.

Publisher Paul Archipley said Gustafson is a good fit for a newspaper company that emphasizes a hyper-local focus on the news.

“As a native son, Brandon knows Mukilteo as well as anybody, and probably better than most,” Archipley said. “We’re excited to have him join our team, and continue our efforts to be the primary source of community news for greater Mukilteo.”
