Schack black and white photo contest honors high school students

Schack Art Center received more than 145 entries for the 2018 Black & White Photography Contest. The contest was open to all high school students in Snohomish County. Photographs were judged in two categories, Grades 9/10 and Grades 11/12. Three local, well-known photographers served as judges: Kyle Goldie, Sonya Lang, and Lloyd Dan Manning.


The following Mukilteo students won awards from Schack:


Grades 9/10 Category

First Place: Lauren Towner, “Distant,” Kamiak High School, Grade 10


Grades 11/12 Category

Third Place: Trevor Garrood, Calm Waters, Kamiak High School, Grade 12


11/12 Honorable Mention:

Malia Fesler, Gracie, Kamiak High School, Grade 11


Award winners will be honored at the Schack's spring Teen Night on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m.


An exhibit of all the entries is currently on display in the Emerging Young Artists' Gallery at the Schack Art Center from March 12 to April 30.

The gallery’s hours are: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Easter Sunday, April 1).
