Schack Art Center is starting the New Year by honoring the past.

The exhibit "Looking Back: Honoring 25 years of artist of the year" features work by all artist of the year award recipients dating back to 1992.

"We wanted to recognize and applaud local artists who were doing amazing things in our arts community and honor their achievements as an artist," shared Carie Collver, who has been the gallery’s director since the award was created.

"I feel very honored to join the creative artists that have also been given this award,” 2002 recipient Kathryn Glowen said. “I think people who see this exhibition will realize what a wonderful environment Snohomish County has been for so many talented artists."

While all the recipients share the artist of the year title, that might be all they have in common.

"It's a very diverse group in terms of medium and artistic voice," explained Collver. "We've had such a variety of artists receive this award from sculptors to glassblowers and painters to photographers, it should make for a very interesting group show."

"Looking Back: Honoring 25 Years of Artist of the Year" is on exhibit at the Schack Art Center in downtown Everett from Jan. 11 until Feb. 24.

A "Meet the Artists" reception is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. Participating artists and additional information are available at
