School board report for April 24

During its meeting on April 24, the Mukilteo School Board did the following:

Heard staff reports about and discussed the following: proposed new instructional materials for 5th grade reading and high school Philosophy of Literature class, Spanish for Literacy class, Human Physiology and Anatomy class, several business and information technology classes and two marketing classes, as well as the use of a new online software for credit-recovery classes; a proposed schedule of school board meetings during the 2012-13 school year; a proposed revision to Board Policy 7250 (Rental or Lease of District Property); a draft of the school district’s Capital Facilities Plan for 2012 to 2017; a report on legislation coming from the 2012 session; and preparations for developing the school district’s 2012-13 operating budget.

During a dialogue session held at Olivia Park Elementary before the general business meeting, members of the school board heard a presentation about the school’s academic history, the strategies that are used to improve teaching, the behavior and discipline plan, teacher guidance and child study teams, intervention plans to improve reading skills, the school’s Morning Club and its community garden.
