School Board Report for May 13

May 15, 2013

During its meeting on May 13, the Mukilteo School Board did the following:

Recognized two students for their outstanding achievements. Honored were Haaland Christiansen of Serene Lake Elementary and Emmanuel Aguilar of the Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP).

Established the calendar for school board meetings to be held during the 2013-14 school year.

Adopted a State Study and Survey that provides information about the condition of school facilities. The survey is necessary to qualify for state assistance for the construction and modernization of school buildings and provides planning information needed for considering future construction projects.

Heard staff reports about and discussed the following: proposed instructional materials for 3rd and 4th grade reading and writing, middle school literacy, 10th grade AP world history, 11th grade U.S. history for ELL students, and high school psychology; the results of the 2013 parent survey; a proposal to delegate supervision and regulation of extracurricular activities to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association; and a review of available budget information.

During a work session held before the regular business meeting, school board members debriefed with the three student directors about their experiences during the past year.

The school board also had a closed session to discuss collective bargaining matters and an executive session to review the performance of an employee.
