Senior Weaver captures title at Mariner Holiday tournament | Wrestling

Mariner’s Levi Weaver pinned Blaine’s Jacob Westfall in 3 minutes, 35 seconds, to win the 182-pound division at the Mariner Holiday Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Dec. 2, at Mariner High School.

Other top Mariner placers were sophomore Jody Notoa (second at 285) and Ryan Fry (second at 152). Notoa lost a 6-2 decision to Bethel’s Esequil Gonzales, while Fry had an injury forfeit. Teammate Sergio Olivares finished third at 138.

Kamiak’s Leo Furlong-Benedetti placed second at 106, losing by a fall to Blaine’s Adam Macauley.

Kamiak’s other top placers were Anthony Armad (third at 170), Diana Cantini (fourth at 113), Richard Chung (fourth at 120), Gauge Holland (third at 152), Max Furlong (fourth at 182), Drew Kindle (fourth at 220) and Austin Pomda (fourth at 285).

Defending 156-pound state girls champion Ally de la Cruz of Kamiak won the 154-159 junior varsity title with a pin of Lynnwood’s Minh Nguyen at the 5-second mark.

Bethell took the team title with 270.5 points. Kamiak placed third 144.5 and Mariner was sixth with 109.5.
